Hi There! I’m Andrea – a 39 year old from Amsterdam – but I’ve been living in Germany for the last 15 years. I’ve always been very ambitious: I studied, worked and got a better job every 3 years. While working as a manager of an aquarium, I finished my MBA in German (!) on the side. Working for a very big company with a lot of pressure, I ended up burning out. After that I chose a less stressful environment and worked at at a wine cooperative as a marketing manager, which I enjoyed very much – I still feel part of the family there.

Caged bird

But as time passed by, I started to be more and more unhappy. Is this it? Who am I if I do not have to achieve something? The lack of freedom started to stifle me, until somebody told me – “Andrea you’re like a caged bird.” So I did the right thing… I flew away! It took a long time… and I was so scared. But… I felt the fear and did it anyway! I quit my job, sold my furniture and bought a one way ticket to Tenerife. On September 26th 2015, I started my journey.

In the first two weeks I pimped my Spanish with a language course and passed the test to Level 2.1! I was not really relaxing… adapting to the humid climate, paying attention and listening for many hours in a row was harder than expected. I successfully mastered my first moves at the Flamenco and Salsa classes, and needed to get rescued from the water while making my first surf attempt… (and no the guy did not look like a Baywatch version of a latin-lover!). After Several bruises, a bleeding leg and being completely exhausted, the surf experiment is now on a break. But hey… I never give up so soon, so maybe another attempt will follow! In the afternoons I visited the co-working space of the FU Academy “Coworking in the SUN “, and started working on my first projects.
